Sociolinguistics: Gendered Language in Advertising

I stumbled upon this interesting set of word clouds used by toy ads for boys and girls respectively posted by Cory Doctorow on boingboing:

  1. There's a really interesting remix of audio and video of ads directed at girls vs boys: http://www.genderremixer.com/flash/

The tone is startlingly different -- I expected it to be, but not to the extent it was -- and there are a lot of interesting prosodic and maybe even phonetic differences/notable things. Might be interesting to talk about, especially for more phonetically-inclined people than I.
